The claim that experts rely too much on deliberate, effortful thinking is too reductive. The more expertise someone has in a field, the more likely they are to rely on System 1 thinking. A statistics expert does not spend much time in deliberative mode when cleaning data or writing R code — that knowledge has become automatic.
