On Using AI to Write

August 13, 2025

Tiago Forte posted a YouTube video detailing how he uses AI to help him write.

As you’d expect, the comment section is a bloodbath. Personally, I found the video useful and I really hope he doesn’t stop his planned series on account of the negative reviews. Or if he’s worried about losing subscribers, he can send unlisted videos to those of us who would like to learn more about his processes.

On using AI to write, here’s my perspective: If a person has domain expertise and has done the work (privately and publicly) necessary to master the field, and has a body of work they can point at to demonstrate said competence, I would engage with anything they put out (books, essays, blogs, etc) — even if they used AI to help them in the process.

What many people don’t appreciate is that an expert in a particular domain would often leverage AI very differently from hustle bros and faceless social media accounts. Using AI to write is not as simple as just entering a prompt and then uncritically passing the content along as yours. And maybe that’s why you can usually tell the difference between content hastily put together to get a reaction out of you and one that is resonant with you.
